Cross-docking

Cross-docking

What is cross-docking?

Cross-docking is a logistics practice where inbound goods are unloaded from one vehicle and loaded directly onto outbound vehicles with minimal or no storage time in between.

Cross-docking in eCommerce

In eCommerce, cross-docking is used to speed up distribution, reduce inventory costs, and minimize storage needs. It enables fast order fulfillment, especially for high-turnover products or time-sensitive goods. With everstox, cross-docking can be implemented as part of a smart logistics setup – allowing direct flow-through of goods via connected fulfillment centers and real-time data coordination between suppliers, warehouses, and carriers.

Example for cross-docking

An electronics brand imports products from a European supplier. With cross-docking via everstox, the goods are received, sorted, and shipped out to end customers on the same day – without being stored.
